Each year, Western Reserve Public Media acquires
school-use rights on behalf of our member schools for series
that are part of the ITV broadcast schedule. We provide these
rights so that you may record the programs and use them at more
convenient times. The school-use rights are listed in this handbook
as part of the ITV program listings section.
For those ITV series without extended
school-use rights, the following usage guidelines apply:
-
Video recordings may be made only by students, teachers,
faculty and staff members in an accredited, nonprofit educational
institution.
-
A program may be recorded off-air simultaneously with broadcast
transmission and retained for a period not to exceed 45 calendar
days. After such time, the program must be erased, or a royalty
fee must be paid to the producer.
-
During the first 10 consecutive school days in the 45-calendar-day
retention period, off-air recordings may be used once by individual
teachers in the course of teaching and repeated only when
instructional reinforcement is necessary in classrooms and
similar instruction areas.
-
After the first 10 consecutive school days, all off-air
recordings may be used until the end of the 45-calendar-day
period for teacher evaluation purposes only.
-
Off-air recordings may be made only at the request of, and
used by, individual teachers, and may not be regularly recorded
in anticipation of requests.
-
Off-air recordings need not be used in their entirety, but
they may not be altered or physically or electronically combined.
The copyright notice must be retained as recorded from the
broadcast program.
