Resources: Area and Perimeter

Area is the size that a surface takes up, measured in square units.

Area of a rectangle = length times width

Area of a square = side times side (s2)

Area of a triangle = one half times base times height (1/2bh)

Area of a trapezoid = base one plus base 2 divided by 2 times the height

Area of a circle = pi times radius times radius (π • r2)

Perimeter
is the distance around the outside of a shape. To find the perimeter, add the measure of all of the sides.

Circumference is the distance around a circle. The circumference of a circle = pi times diameter (π • d).
