Western Reserve Public Media celebrates the holiday season in December with a variety of music, decorating and nature specials. Presented below is the month’s holiday programming. Shows that are airing for the first time on our station are marked with an asterisk (*).
 

Sunday, Dec. 2

*Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration, 8 p.m.
Enjoy popular Christmas classics such as “White Christmas,” “Carol of the Bells” and “O Holy Night” that embody the ethereal and angelic harmonies and voices of the group Celtic Woman.

 

Monday, Dec. 3

The Three Tenors Christmas, 9 p.m.
PBS reprises a holiday favorite with José Carreras, Plácido Domingo and the late Luciano Pavarotti. Taped in 1999, the program features beloved carols.


Wednesday, Dec. 5

David Hartman, formerly of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” presents this delightful look at Paul Busse’s annual holiday train show in New York City.

 

Sunday, Dec. 9

A Chanukah Celebration, 11 p.m.
Actress Fran Drescher hosts a fun-filled hour featuring Chanukah stories, performances and decorating tips.

 

Tuesday, Dec. 11

*L.A. Holiday Celebration 2007, 2 a.m.
This program is a highlight version of the six-hour Los Angeles County Holiday Celebration that took place in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center on Christmas Eve 2006. The performers participating in the show each year represent the many cultures and holiday traditions found in the Los Angeles area.

 

Thursday, Dec. 13

Christmas in Europe is a rich and fascinating mix of Christian and pre-Christian traditions. Host Rick Steves explores holiday celebrations across Europe.

 

Sunday, Dec. 16

*Live From Lincoln Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center: Red Hot Holiday Stomp, 12:30 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Jazz at Lincoln Center’s artistic director, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, hosts this evening of joyous music and storytelling from Fredrick P. Rose Hall.
   
*L.A. Holiday Celebration 2007, 4 a.m.

In a memorable new holiday concert for the entire family, opera star Angela Brown performs at the historic Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. Possessing a rare "Verdi soprano" voice full of power, passion and soul, the classically trained Brown performs a personally selected mix of traditional and classical holiday pieces.
   
*Holiday Table With Chris Fennimore and Emily Luchetti, 3:30 p.m.
Chris and Emily prove that it is better to head to the kitchen rather than the shopping center to create wonderful homemade gifts.

 

Monday, Dec. 17

*A Holly Jolly Pops Holiday With Barenaked Ladies, 9 p.m.
Get into the spirit of the Christmas season with conductor Keith Lockhart, the Boston Pops Orchestra and the pop music group Barenaked Ladies.

 

Wednesday, Dec. 19

Christmas With the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Featuring Renée Fleming and Claire Bloom, 9 p.m.
The renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square welcome opera superstar Renée Fleming and British actress Claire Bloom.
   
*Christmas at St. Olaf: Where Peace and Love and Hope Abide, 10 p.m.
This Christmas special features the renowned choirs and orchestra of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. The program this year blends excerpts from Handel’s “Messiah,” Mendelssohn’s “St. Paul” and Honegger’s “King David” with new, specially commissioned works for chorus and orchestra.

 

Friday, Dec. 21

Christmas With the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Featuring Renée Fleming and Claire Bloom, 3 a.m.
The renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square welcome opera superstar Renée Fleming and British actress Claire Bloom.

The program includes such holiday favorites as "Sweet Little Boy Jesus" by Guy Hovis and Ralna English, and "Oh Holy Night" by Joe Feeney.
   

Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Live, 11 p.m.
Feel the excitement of Mannheim Steamroller live in concert with the thrilling holiday performance by the number-one selling Christmas artists of the past decade.

 

Sunday, Dec. 23

Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Live, 4 a.m.
Feel the excitement of Mannheim Steamroller live in concert with the thrilling holiday performance by the number-one selling Christmas artists of the past decade.
   
*Christmas With the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Featuring Sissel, 1 p.m.
A national institution in Norway, Sissel has sung all over the world. This special features traditional Christmas songs and Norwegian folk tunes, recorded from four sold-out concerts performed in 2006.
   
*Holiday Table With Chris Fennimore and Emily Luchetti, 3:30 p.m.
Soul food expert Joyce White is whipping up a menu for Kwanzaa that will satisfy your soul and your stomach.
   
Nature, Christmas in Yellowstone, 7 p.m.
From the unique crystals of individual snowflakes to the grand sweep of Yellowstone’s Hayden Valley, this is a Christmas like no other.
   
Rick Steves’ European Christmas, 8 p.m.
Christmas in Europe is a rich and fascinating mix of Christian and pre-Christian traditions. Host Rick Steves explores holiday celebrations across Europe.
   
The Birth of Christ, 11 p.m.
Filmed August 2006 at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland, this musical celebration brings together Catholic and Protestant singers who put aside their sectarian differences and raise their voices in unity and peace.

 

Monday, Dec. 24

*Christmas With the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Featuring Sissel, 9 p.m.
A national institution in Norway, Sissel has sung all over the world. This special features her singing traditional Christmas songs and Norwegian folk tunes, recorded from four sold-out concerts performed in 2006.
   
*Christmas at Belmont (2007), 10 p.m.
This concert is a holiday tradition at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., where the School of Music features outstanding choral and instrumental ensembles that have received high praise nationally and internationally.

 

Tuesday, Dec. 25
