The Joust

Jousting is a sport that consists of competition between two knights using a variety of weapons. The weapons used could include a lance, blows with the battle axe, strokes with the dagger, or strokes with a sword, often as part of a tournament. Knights competed both on and off of their horses.

Sir William Westmoreland is ready for his joust. His armor is from the late Middle Ages.

This shot shows two knights jousting with glaive — a pole with a one-sided blade on the end.

This knight is also jousting with a glaive.

This knight is getting ready to joust with a lance (long pole) and to try to knock his opponent off the horse.

After the joust, the knights parade around the arena carrying the banner of their manor.
