The Peasants

Feudalism was the system or organization of Medieval society. In return for the lord's protection and the right to work the land, the peasants performed services and paid fees to the lord. Most of the peasants were farmers but some were tradesmen, like millers or tavern owners. The farmers leased their land and also paid taxes to the lord and to the king. Most farmers were serfs. They were required to stay with the land and worked several days a week for the lord of the manor.

It was most unusual at this time to have a female blacksmith

Even in the Middle Ages women wanted to look beautiful. This lady is having her hair done and admiring the work in her mirror.

One of the forms of entertainment was dancing around the Maypole. They held a ribbon and wrapped it around the pole.

The jester and the clown offered entertainment to peasants and nobles alike.

Pipers and drummers were also part of the parade.
