Joan Rivers joins the flock as Shirley the Sheep!

Weekdays at 6:30 a.m.

Joan Rivers, the self-styled “queen of comedy,” brings her razor-sharp humor down to the farm as the voice of Shirley the Sheep on Jakers: The Adventures of Piggley Winks. Rivers is the latest celebrity grandparent to join the Emmy Award-winning and critically acclaimed animated children’s series.

As Shirley, Rivers plays the wife of Wiley the Sheep, matching woolly wits with another series regular, comic legend and famous grandparent Mel Brooks. The series has tapped the two comic heroes as well as other high-profile grandparents to promote the show’s core theme of storytelling and grandparent-grandchild bonding.

Known for her unrelenting wit and unmistakable glamour, Rivers has enjoyed success in the fields of broadcasting and comedy for over 40 years. Famous as a commentator at high-profile fashion award ceremonies such as the Oscars, she reinvents herself as the voice of Shirley the Sheep in six new episodes of the show. This is not her first foray into voiceover work, as she recently voiced a cameo role in Shrek 2.

In addition to Rivers and Brooks, new episodes of the series also feature celebrated award-winning Irish author and storyteller Frank McCourt. Real-life grandparents get a chance to share their stories, too, in segments that speak to the diversity and importance of learning from our elders.

Aimed at children ages 4-7, Jakers is the only children’s television show that celebrates the special bond between grandparents and grandchildren in each episode. The standout educational series stimulates children to explore their heritage and encourages “co-viewing” by grandparents and grandkids.
