Ohio Ready To Learn Workshops
for Family Childcare Providers
Spring 2006
We are pleased to offer a series of three trainings
for the family childcare professional. This year’s emphasis
is on evaluating effectiveness of childcare practices, along with
continued focus on child development and The Learning Triangle.
Workshops are offered in Columbiana, Jefferson, Mahoning, Medina,
Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull and Tuscarawas counties.
Phase One: Have a Healthy
Day
Participants will be able to demonstrate the importance of safety
and hygiene in the childcare setting.
Phase Two: Tools for Self-Assessment:
Taking Stock of Appropriate Practices
Using the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scales (both ECERS-R
and FDCERS-R) as well as the Early Language and Literacy Classroom
Observation (ELLCO), participants will be able to conduct self-assessment
of their current childcare practices and take steps to increase
quality.
Phase Three: Ages &
Stages
Ages & Stages is an assessment tool to help parents and caregivers
understand developmental milestones and reasonable expectations
for growth in all the domains. The Ohio Department of Education
Early Learning Content Standards, and how they apply to child
development, will be covered.
