Ohio Ready To Learn Workshops
for Family Childcare Providers

Spring 2006

We are pleased to offer a series of three workshops for the family childcare professional. This year’s emphasis is on evaluating effectiveness of childcare practices, along with continued focus on child development and The Learning Triangle. Workshops will be offered in Columbiana, Jefferson, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull and Tuscarawas counties.

Phase One: Have a Healthy Day
Participants will be able to demonstrate the importance of safety and hygiene in the childcare setting.

Phase Two: Tools for Self-Assessment: Taking Stock of Appropriate Practices
Using the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scales (both ECERS-R & FDCERS-R) as well as the Early Language and Literacy Classroom Observation (ELLCO), participants will be able to conduct self-assessment on their current childcare practices and take steps to increase quality.

Phase Three: Ages & Stages
Ages & Stages is an assessment tool to help parents and caregivers understand developmental milestones and reasonable expectations for growth in all the domains. The Ohio Department of Education Early Learning Content Standards, and how they apply to child development, will be covered.

If you are a childcare provider and you are looking for FREE training, please call Heidi Johnson, PBS 45 & 49 Education Outreach Coordinator, at 800-554-4549 to request a schedule and registration flyer, or visit our Web site at http://www.pbs4549.org/rtl2006.htm.
