PBS 45 & 49 Receives Outreach
Grant
The National Center for Outreach has awarded PBS 45 & 49 a
$10,000 grant to provide PBS Kids Go! educational
services, materials and activities to local communities. The center,
which is funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, supports
public television outreach efforts that extend the impact of public
broadcasting.
PBS Kids Go! is a new educational multimedia destination
designed for early elementary school children. The initiative includes
a programming block featuring the series Maya & Miguel
and Postcards From Buster, plus a Web destination,
pbskidsgo.org. It also features
programming, including Arthur and Cyberchase,
that is targeted toward older children.
Through this new grant, PBS 45 & 49 will offer the following
resources during 2005-2006:
-
Creation of a PBS Kids Go! Activity Guide
-
Outreach activities with the school-age specialist at Child
Care Connection, our local resource and referral agency
-
Three community outreach events
-
Workshops that use the PBS Kids Go! Activity
Guide
-
A Web site that disseminates the Activity Guide and promotes
activities
“After-school teachers and caregivers continually face the
challenge of providing appropriate, meaningful materials for students
with a wide range of ages and abilities,” says Maria Mastromatteo,
director of educational services at PBS 45 & 49. “We are
pleased that, through this grant, we can offer high-quality print
materials and activities that will help teachers find effective,
standards-based learning tools for the children in their classes.” |
