Campbell Teachers Get the (Digital) Picture

by Jeff Good, Director of Education ()

When you ask Lynn Romito, library media specialist at Campbell City Schools, what her responsibilities are, she jokingly responds, “What don’t I do?” Romito is in charge of the district libraries and leads the development of the district technology plan and acceptable-use policies.

In support of her faculty’s educational technology efforts, Romito conducted a survey that showed a strong interest in digital photography. She then turned to PBS 45 & 49 to deliver training to more than 30 educators over a four-day period.

“The variety of workshops offered at PBS 45 & 49 was probably the key factor in my decision to contact them,” said Romito. “The concept of them coming to us was an added bonus.”

The sessions were delivered on site to two different groups of teachers from across the district. Participants learned the basic operation of a Canon digital camera, basic photographic techniques and how digital images can be integrated into different classroom applications.

Class participant Tammy Thompson already knew the basics of PowerPoint but learned more at the session. “By taking this workshop, I learned how to animate pictures in and out of slides.”

Wayne Zetts will utilize the skills he learned from the sessions to “take pictures of students and use them to build self-esteem when the students see the pictures displayed around the gym.”

As a Comprehensive Member at PBS 45 & 49, Campbell City Schools, under Romito’s leadership, assessed the needs of its staff and utilized PBS 45 & 49 Educational Services to meet them. Let us know how we can similarly help your school district.
