Stu Lichter, the real estate
developer responsible for the new Canal Place, approached
Goodyear to develop a new corporate headquarters and a
new North American headquarters. In exchange, Lichter's
company, Industrial Realty Group LLC of Downey, Calif.,
would create a new commercial environment around Goodyear,
including a Bass Pro Shop and a lifestyle center to compensate
their expenditures on Goodyear.
Akron is buzzing with this
possible economic development. However, many East Akron
residents are concerned. As reported
recently in the Akron Beacon Journal, they wonder whether
eminent domain will run them from their homes on the "poet
streets," where much of this development will take
place.
